Saw Anna Karenina today, since I thought from the review I read that it would be an entirely different experience in a theater than on a DVD. I still think so, too. It's kind of baffling, but beautiful. And tragic, of course... And now I have to read the *&%$#! book!

Having mulled over the Hobbit for a day, I will now be spoilery behind a cut )

No, not the Hobbit.

But I thoroughly enjoyed Pirates: Band of Misfits anyway, despite the 3D (although it did have fun with the usual stupid audience tricks you'd expect in a movie full of swords and luxuriant beards.)

If you go, do stick around for the credits, where the animators have been kind enough to give you larger versions of the signs throughout the movie and enough time to read them.

And I've been in fandom too long, because I can't decide if I ship the Pirate Captain with No. 2 or with Charles Darwin... in a purely platonic sense, of course!

Brilliant movie. I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves movies, and can pretty much guarantee you will see it collecting award nominations by the bucketfull.

Spent the weekend gallivanting, and when I got home tonight there was a package. My very own DVD of Sherlock Holmes.

No, no, not that Sherlock Holmes. This Sherlock Holmes. The one with dinosaurs.

Spoilers of course )

Just went and saw it and I gotta say:

Go see this one in the theaters!

Best thing Disney's done since Lilo and Stitch. The colors are amazing, the way they play with the art styles is fascinating, the music ain't bad, and all in all, it just ain't gonna be the same thing on a tv. Not even in blue ray.

It has to be the concussion, Watson thought frantically, although how the hallucination had managed to involve more senses than sight he could not fathom. Never had a dream smelled so sharply of soot and ash, never had one tasted so clearly of fear. The small hairs on his arms stood up in gooseflesh, and then shrivelled away as the heat poured over him.

He stumbled backwards as the woman in the fire smiled and raised a tendril of flame in greeting. Her voice came out of the conflagration, hissing like soft coals alight in a furnace. "Hello, John, dear."

Although actually, this picture is from something called "Black Death".

Still Sean Bean is always nice to look at.
