This may clutter up my flist a lot
May. 24th, 2012 12:53 amBut I think I'd almost rather y'all stopped using LJ-cuts. Especially on fic. Because I paid for my LJ so that I could get notifications on the things I posted, and have them in my readily searchable email, and the latest LJ update won't give me anything under a cut in the notification email.
Not thrilled.

Why do they keep breaking comments?

Why do they keep breaking comments?
As you can see
Dec. 20th, 2011 09:02 pmI'm covering my bets and posting at Dreamwidth as well as LJ. Just in case the debacle is too debacly for me. This is the test post. Mind you, I still have the option of viewing in my own style, so I don't know how indignant I'm going to be entirely, but hey, I'm getting tired of websites (I'm looking at you google) fixing what ain't broken.
About that Facebook and Twitter thing...
Sep. 1st, 2010 10:43 pmI'm not going to defriend anybody over linking to the facebook or twitter account unless the comment deserves it, but I'm not happy about the whole notion. I dislike Facebook's ever evolving "privacy" policy intensely, and only have an FB because of my mom and a few friends. You may have noticed that if you're in my style I've hidden the ticky boxes. (If you'd like to do the same go here:
http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml?group=customcss
and enter:
.b-repost-item {display:none}
in the box called custom stylesheet and then save.
If you'd like to give some feedback to LJ about your feelings on the subject, go here:
http://community.livejournal.com/eljayfeedback/515.html
for a poll and some links.
The pingback thing doesn't bother me so much.
ETA: I can't take credit for the script! I got it from a FOAF in a locked post. (Who I am about to ask if I can credit directly...) But it was so brilliant I had to share it.

experiment of the day
May. 10th, 2010 04:30 pmI'm trying to see if I can get the scrapbook to work ( with some Sherlockian things from the new toy. )

Feb. 13th, 2010 02:44 amAh, LJ LJ, what have you done to me now....
http://nomadicwriter.livejournal.com/117115.html has a good explanation of why, if you've ever recced something by giving the tag (say, "call for the doctor") the link is now borked.
*sigh*
I really hope they're freeing up the plus sign so that we can do boolean logic with tags soon. Can't think of any other reason to make a change like this!

layout questions
Sep. 12th, 2008 06:14 pmDoes anyone who really likes figuring out LJ layouts know how to add a tag cloud and a list of links to something as basic as my current layout? I don't want fancy, I just want to be able to click quick and find things.
Alternately, does anyone know a layout that's really really readable which does have tags and links?
Or even where I should be asking the question?

If you use LJtoys for your mood icons...
Dec. 14th, 2007 01:36 pmPlease let me know. I found some very uncomfortable html behind one of their images this morning (it broke the flock for one of the people in my flist) and I would like to avoid them as much as possible.
ETA... hmm. there is a chance I am panicking slightly prematurely about the html part of this... But I still can't explain the image that's so big it gets filtered and then hasn't anything there.
ETA 2: I think I'm definitely panicking about the flock thing. *whew* LJtoys, however, does seem to be putting up a "webbug", a tiny invisible icon linked to a javascript in posts where the user hasn't selected a mood icon (they can count hits from the mood icon directly.) Blocking javascript would disable that or setting your journal to always use your own mood icons even on other people's posts...
ETA 3: I am an idiot! Hooray! The flock thing was me misinterpreting what I was seeing. *whew* As Rosannadanna would say, "Never mind!"
And thank you, fictualities, for straightening me out.

http://caras-galadhon.livejournal.com/348782.html has some good points about the whole flag/content marking system. #3 had escaped me, but I like it I do. Should cut down on the basic trolls. And you appear to need to be an LJ user to set flags flying from that too.
( So on the whole I'm cautiously optimistic. )
But reading through all of the things I'm seeing, I think what I'm getting is a sense of relief. Like any compromise, this is imperfect -- no one is entirely happy, but we're all unhappy for different reasons. There are kinks that will probably be addressed. But on the whole, this is a win for the users.
You see, it could be a lot worse. LJ/SixApart could have decided that adult content was just too much hassle to deal with on their servers and banned it entirely.
I'm just as happy that they didn't.
