About that Facebook and Twitter thing...

I'm not going to defriend anybody over linking to the facebook or twitter account unless the comment deserves it, but I'm not happy about the whole notion. I dislike Facebook's ever evolving "privacy" policy intensely, and only have an FB because of my mom and a few friends. You may have noticed that if you're in my style I've hidden the ticky boxes. (If you'd like to do the same go here:

Thanks for the links; participated in both. The pingbacks don't bother me really; it's just the privacy violation of the other networking sites and the reposting, because I have a paid account for the very reason that I wanted the privacy options it offered.

Hopefully they'll listen to the feedback. *crosses fingers*

Thanks for the tip. That was definitely their worst idea so far. I have a facebook, but mainly because of peer pressure at university (and because it is easy to keep in contact with the uni people) but that doesn't mean I want to share everything about my life with them. And my LJ is a lot more personal than FB.

Ah, cheers - I'd implemented the script to knock the boxes off any comments I left, but didn't know you could hide them for everyone's comments on your own LJ.

And pingbacks are pretty innocuous, yep.

Quick question: have you heard of anyone losing the ability to edit their comments on an LJ which has this custom style enabled?

Neat idea -and it actually works! In case that you didn't see my latest post, I changed my LJ name from belegcuthalion. And I take it hopefully assume that I'm allowed to keep you on my f-list as soon as my LJ turns "Friends only" next Thursday. *smiles*

The workaround isn't working for me. I suspect it's because I don't have a paid account. :-\

Also? If someone has it set to display other people's entries using their own style, then the ticky-boxes will still appear if the viewing person has them showing. Case in point: I display everyone's entries in my style by default (mostly so I don't have to worry about people's background pictures when I'm at work), so I still see the ticky-boxes as I'm commenting here. Just FYI that this workaround isn't foolproof.

Be aware! It hides the boxes in your style, and disables them, but if someone is reading in their own style they're still there. Keeps me from having to look at the icky facebook thingie, though, and cuts down the chance that I'll keyboard my way right to sharing when I meant to post.

And I didn't invent it, I'm just passing it along.
