This one was pretty good. I am continually amazed by the people who I know who are actually good at remembering birthdays (even mine!) because it is a skill that several decades has not allowed me to acquire. But I woke up to a lovely e-card and found several notes concerning my natal day strewn through my flist (along with pictures and good wishes.)

I spent the day lazily enough at first. Watched the DVD of the first part of Deathly Hallows, which I'd missed in theaters, and decided spoilery if you care )

After that I went to an appointment with a physical therapist for my back (yes, I did, so those of you who made suggestions a while ago can relax, I am doing something about it.) And from there I went sailing on the Charles, which was fun on the way up to the next bridge -- one looooong jibe -- and bloody cold on the way back -- tack, tack, tack, tack, tack, tack, tack, tack, all zigzag. And then I couldn't quite manage to get to the dock right. Killed my momentum too soon the first time, got to the dock the second time but couldn't get the rope over before I drifted back, and then had too much momentum and had to be rescued by helpful peoples. *sigh*

I'm getting it, but slowly slowly...

Then I came home and had some nice people bring me dinner while I watched some Ronald Howard Holmes.

And today I've managed to write a bit and had two naps.

Onward.

One down, more to go.

It's been a pretty good birthday, thanks to my friendslist. I've got more virtual cake than I can eat, a story from [livejournal.com profile] belegcuthalion, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] rubynye and bunches and bunches of greetings.

I thought I'd try to get several drabbles done today, in various fandoms, but the children were not cooperating, and my dinner required my attention. (Prime rib and cheesecake! Good thing I only do THAT once a year.) Thought I'd let y'all know that I'm momentarily distracted by life, the univers, and NCIS -- and yes, there'll be a NCIS drabble, now that I've allowed myself to start reading the fanfiction. And can I be appalled that I've found an entire fandom that doesn't know the difference between "loose" and "lose"?

But now I'm going to go try and come up with something for New Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, maybe Harry Potter and post the NCIS drabble I wrote the other night.

I got a phone call from my mom, email from my sisters and my friends and a birthday greeting from my newly bespectacled nephew. Good day!

Thanks everyone, for making my day so lovely!

Today was a day I sorely needed. Lots of lovely birthday greetings from my flist, which I thank you for, and the start of a week's vacation, as well as actual sunshine after a miserable rainy week have made for a very good day.

Even better, my best friend asked me if I wanted to run down to the Cape today, and it was exactly what I wanted. We went all the way out to Orleans (which is about the elbow) and then north a bit to the Cape Cod National Seashore to walk in the sand and watch the lovely waves roll in from across the Atlantic. Then we went up to the big red barn for the best pizza in Massachusetts and putzed our way back home via the Brewster Book Store and a cookware shop that had many neat gadgets all calling to me.

My birthday gift is a garlic roaster -- the sort of thing I'd never buy for myself, but which will get much usage -- and I stopped to buy garlic on the way home, so now my apartment smells glorious, and I am going to have myself so much garlic smashed on bread that all cold germs in the vicinity will flee in terror.

La la la, now all I need is a nice hot bath with lots of bubbles and one of my new books.

Happy birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] grapeofdeath who is my LJ twin! I hope your birthday was as good as mine!

ETA added the link to the garlic roaster website. I like it THAT much!

But between [livejournal.com profile] shirebound's birthday and [livejournal.com profile] belegcuthalion's birthday I thought to at least give it a try... Think of it as being in the same timeline as "Chosen".

A Little Birthday Fluff )
