I figured out how to make a picture be 100 pixels by 100! I played with effects! I made an icon! (although you have to click the comments link to actually see it...)

Well, sort of. And I haven't figured out how to put words in there yet. But it's a start!

That's a pretty good first icon, better than my first one. And you'll soon figure out how to put text on it, I'm sure. But just remember this one icon-making fact: Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you, it will.

Yup, LJ's been cranky off and on, so I wandered off and haikued. But I've been cranky too, off and on, because I'm sick, so it hasn't mattered.

Microsoft Photo Editor. It came with the machine, and I didn't realize it until today.

no, I don't think so. It looks like you can do so in MS Paint, however - it's a standard program, so you should be able to find it on your computer as well. I just tried it. When you click on the little [A] button, you then get two choices in the sidebar that sort of look like little graphs. If you click on one it will give you a white background to your text, and if you click on the other one it will give you a clear background, that is, it will show up directly on your icon. However, I'm not sure you would be able to move that text around after you've typed it, so you'd want to be pretty sure about placement first.

Paint worked fine -- it's not fancy, but it'll do.
You can't move around the text, but you can "undo" and try again pretty easily.

You know the thing with icons---well, at least for me---is? They tend to get very associative. For some people that I've come to know better through e-mails, I get a rough idea of what they might look like. But somehow, everytime I saw your Sam icon---don't kill me because of this---I kind of think of you as looking like that, determined, no-nonsense kind of ... lass :)

Oh, what I'm trying to say actually is...get well soon! We can talk about Decision later :)

Oh, I think you'll continue to see determined Sam... At least, judging from the icon bases I've made so far! Lol! That first icon that not_fledged_yet made for me is still my favorite. But I had to do something to use the lovely paid membership someone gave me, and this is incentive to learn more about the computer.

Being sick is a good time to look at stories, actually, so feel free to write me if you want to. I may not answer till after my nap, tho...
