Drabble - Worse than Mordor

Remember that tree, Mr. Frodo? It had the sweetest apples in the Shire. And that shed there, it’s right in the place where the daffydowndillys always bloomed come spring. The well’s been fouled – something’s dead down there and please don’t let it be Lotho. Though probably ‘tis. Saruman had to know we were coming. He’s left his filth smeared on the kitchen floor, and there’s not a bite of food nor drop of drink in Bag End I’d trust not to be poisoned.

You go along back to Farmer Cotton’s, and let me get started. I’ll make it right.

Somehow.

This is why I don't offer my services as a beta... I've got no tact. You did notice how much I shredded my previous version of The Ringbearer and the Rose when I went through it, yes? I promise you, the story is marvelous. I wouldn't have taken the time to be honest if I didn't think so. And I really want to read the rest of it, even if you never change a word!

My cardinal rule here is You're the author! If you think my suggestion is good and matches your intentions, then it's worth acting on. If I didn't "get it", or I "got it" just the way you wanted me to (whether I'm comfortable with the idea or not) then my suggestions are just dishwater. Just because I'm opinionated doesn't mean I'm always right! You're the published author here, darlin', and I'm the amateur.

Never hesitate to tell me (or any other critic, editor, or beta) to take a flying leap... At least not about fanfic. We don't have the power to hand you a paycheck!

*laughs*

Thanks for the reassurances. I tell myself that when it comes to fanfic, I write for my own pleasure, and no other's, but still I'm troubled when someone is not comfortable with the stories I write. Anyway, thank you. I'll get back to Decision as soon as possible. The three-day Easter holiday should be long enough for that.
