gacked from [livejournal.com profile] janeturenne

1. Write down the names of 10 characters.

2. Write a fic of fifteen words or less (a limitation I cheerfully ignored, although I did try to keep them short) for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. DO NOT read the prompts before you do step 1.

This would have been easier if I'd chosen characters from only one fandom )

I'm going to try posting and then adding a line or two at a time. Something doesn't like me much at the moment.

Can't remember if I posted about this before, but I got reminded of it during the great Internet Isn't In Interval.

A while ago, I was reading [livejournal.com profile] ozarques journal and she was mentioning the fact that people who aren't sight oriented use language differently. A sight-oriented person might "see the differences" between two things while a touch oriented person might "feel the gap" between the same things.

A little while ago [livejournal.com profile] ozarque was talking quite a bit about people who aren't sight dominant and how that changes the language they like to use. And since one of the problems I have in fic writing is an overabundance of "seeing" and "looking", I thought I'd try to write something from the p.o.v. of a character who trusted his sense of touch and smell more than his eyes. So, bit by bit I've put together some paragraphs for what might someday be an Emergency! fic if it ever finds a plot. But as I'm starting to feel the tug of LotR again (very softly) I thought I'd go ahead and put what I had up here to get it out of my hair and then see if I can actually write something I'm supposed to in the next week or so...

totally optional wip )

Some of you have seen the drafts. (And thank you for the encouragement!) But I think it's ready for primetime now.

Partner (Roy)

He drives me nuts, you know, with his fads and his sulks, but I’d rather have him on a rescue with me than any other guy in the program I can think of. If Gage hesitates, there’s always a good reason. Most times he doesn’t hesitate at all. He just skinnies into some crumbling hole in the ground or a half-wrecked building like some kind of hare-brained superhero and gets to the patient while I’m still trying to figure out how to fit. First in, last out, that’s Gage. When he gets out.

Come on, Johnny. Get out of there.

Partner (Johnny)

You see it’s like this. Roy’s the best paramedic in the department – well, except for me of course – and that’s a good thing, except when he gets worried about something, he’s good at worrying too, if you follow me. And when he gets worried about something he’s bound and determined to do something about it. Which means that he’ll walk back into a building that’s fully involved if he thinks that there’s someone stuck inside, and that means that I’ve gotta get myself out of here before he does something stupid.

Joanne’ll never forgive me if I get him killed.

Y'know, I picked up the Emergency! first season on DVD, and I've been watching the episodes and realizing that modern special effects have robbed us of things like seeing the actual actors crouched under an asbestos blanket while real sparks fall down on top of them...
