Distractions are a good thing!

Don't have enough braincells to write tonight, but I can brag a little. One of my stories got nominated for two different categories of the Golden Mushrooms!
It's The Ringbearer and the Rose and it's made the list for Best Crybaby and Best Use of Rosie. Isn't that nice? Now I don't even care if I win, lol!

Date: 2004-12-10 05:36 am (UTC)You know, I was the idiot who didn't read the rules properly and nominated two stories at the same time in one category. I'm so glad it was not Ringbearer that was kicked out that way (they allow only one nomination per reader in each category...)*blushes with shame*

Date: 2004-12-10 05:16 pm (UTC)I went and reread it again. Even for all the angst in it, it still has a general feeling of gentle Shire pastoral surroundings and hobbits living where hobbits ought to... even though there are still signs of damage all around. Peaceful.
But I have one question. Which one is the crybaby in the story? Or is it reader's choice? ;)

Date: 2004-12-11 05:50 am (UTC)how splendid!
Date: 2004-12-22 11:09 pm (UTC)And this from a LotR fan who usually refuses to read fanfic. :-)
May I friend you? Even though I'm a half-inch away from being a purist?
Re: how splendid!
Date: 2004-12-23 12:29 am (UTC)At the moment I am chasing a plotbunny, which means I'm posting as I go and the entries are not long enough to deserve the name of chapter -- it's one of those things which may or may not graduate into being a proper story, and if it does will require a severe rewrite to get Bergil's dialogue closer to the book. But I am fighting off the winter blues, so I am fluffing.
Normally what I tend to write is drabbles, and a great many of them are book based. I have been known to dip my toe into AU and *gasp* slash, but not terribly often. I write movie stuff, but pretty rarely. In a fit of industriousness a couple of months ago I linked a great many of my stories/wips/ficlets and drabbles into "chronological" order -- if you care to wander through them the links start here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rabidsamfan/74833.html). I'm something of a style sponge, so when I have been reading the book a lot, I write better stuff. The "timeline" isn't in the order that I wrote things, so it's a little uneven in quality. Still, you might like some of the bits. A few things are longer, but most of them are only 100 words.
If the drabbles don't attract, perhaps you'd care to read my essays (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rabidsamfan/66705.html) on lembas. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rabidsamfan/68348.html) I've no compunctions about going back to earlier conversations, so feel free to disagree, but I warn you, I'm a librarian, and I will ask you to cite your source! I'm not a proper Tolkien "geek" having never read the Silmarillion and only skimmed through the Letters and HoME -- the elves don't interest me all that much -- but I'm willing to be swayed.
Thank you again for your lovely comment. I hope that you enjoy reading more of my efforts.
