Third

This makes up for so much. The recalcitrant digestion, the incurable tendency to bite off the heads of the orcs who are meant to tend them, the molting feathers that stick to my robes; these are nothing compared to the view which I now command. The very mountains are like pebbles beneath me.

Even better it is to bend my mount and fall without fear, diving to soar over farmland and fortress, my own shadow sweeping across the upturned faces of the gathering armies.

I shriek out my delight, and watch the frightened ants scatter.

“Look at me! I’m flying!”

That last line is way too funny! It almost makes the Nazgul likeable, that lingering trace of its human qualities. Poor Nazgul. Lovely drabble!

Thank you. I think this was the most fun to write of all of them.

In a world where only Eagles have that view, I'd expect it was pretty keen to be so high.

*screams* Nazgul humor!!! Oh, this one is terrific. What is an eternity of servitude to pure evil compared with FLYING?? Great last line; I love it!

I did consider writing one about an airsick Nazgul, but that would have been taking things a bit too far.

"the frightened ants"... wonderful! I love how the wraith is still "human" enough to be put off just a bit by the fell beast's less hygienic aspects, too. These have been so much fun to read!

Thank you! Tolkien describes the fell beasts as "Carrion Birds" although sometimes there's sort of a pterodactyl quality to them. But I thought the feathers would be funny.

Simply great - flying is fun!

Short question, concerning the first sentence. Shouldn't it be This makes up for so much (without the is)? Or is it just my foreign ignorance?

sorry to spam, but I'm loving "Winter's Fire"...I'm telling my friends about it so they can read it too. Keep up the wonderful work! (I usually wait until the end of the story to review, but wanted to let you know I think it's awesome.)

Barnstorming Nazgul. All he needs now are oversize aviator glasses and a bad guy mustache. ;-)
These are so great- I love 'em.

I kept wanting to make one of these guys be one of the forest folk, like Ghan-buri-ghan and resentful of the height of the others, but I could never make it quite work. But maybe it's this fellow, and that's why he likes being so high!

Between the immortality and the love of flying, this Nazgul seems to have a bit of a Peter Pan complex! Rather sweet for an EvilDude!
