Bearers

“Come on, Samwise,” Bilbo said and perched the youngest Gamgee babe on his shoulder to save Bell the trouble of chasing him as she plodded sturdily up the path with one hand supporting her rounded belly.

***

“Come on, Sam,” Frodo laughed and swung the giggling gardener’s boy onto his back before lining up with the other tweens for the piggyback race and a chance at winning the young piglet that the Mayor had put up as prize this year.

***

“Come on, Mr. Frodo,” Sam cried. “I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well.”

No doubt. He probably gave lifts to half the neighborhood children before they ever left too, but the paragraph I had mentioning it was exactly the number of words I needed to cut away...

Thanks!

Dhhhh...

I'm sitting here at half past six, with a hanging jaw. That was a hit in the center of my solarplexus.

Brava. Simply masterful.

I sometimes feel as if I'm cheating a little, by posting in the middle of your night. Surely these wouldn't be quite so stunning after a cup of coffee?

*grin*

Thanks!

Is there such a thing as a Pulitzer for fanfic? You'd SO be on the short list.

It would have to be a very short pulitzer, considering the usual length of the stuff I post!

Thanks!

Writing when half-ready to go to sleep, so that the brain is wandering, seems to help. But I never know which drabbles are going to get the best reaction until afterwards.

“I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well.”

I love this line and you gave it even more meaning than it already had.
Wonderful!!!

I love it too. The first time I read it it was three in the morning and I read the rest of the chapter through tears...

I don't remember the time (how could I ... I even forgot to eat and would have forgotten to drink if not for the constant mention of water ... but I remember crying.

Oh.

Oh. My.

I know I ALWAYS say this...but I mean it every time. This is just beautiful. And heartbreaking. Very, very moving.

It really and truly brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you.

Lovely. As ever your 'backstory' adds depth and roundness to the original. And it's nice to think of a more two-way relationship, turn-and-about, like this.

I've been thinking a lot about Bilbo and what happens between The Hobbit and LOTR lately. I'm not sure why... But it's fun! Thanks!

This little tale was sweet and touching... perfect as always.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the moment when Frodo comforted Bilbo in Rivendell, after Bilbo tried to grab the Ring. That was so brave of Frodo, and says so much about his love for Bilbo.

All too true. There's so much going on that we don't get told!

(Which is why we write fanfic!)
