Merry and Faramir

Who are you to want to know about my shieldsister? Can I trust you with her, fragile as she is? I did not save her from the Witch King to watch her heart be broken once again. I know that she is beautiful, after the way of Men and Elves, and you are not the first to ask, just the first to think he might command.

The Steward? But I am sworn to Rohan, and to her in her Uncle’s stead.

Boromir’s brother? That’s better. I owe a debt to Boromir that cannot be repaid.

But I loved her first.

*sigh* How do you do that? Bring out so much emotion with so little words? This is lovely. Absolutely cooworthy! :-) Thanks for sharing it with the rest of the class!

Practice practice practice (and a small dash of inspiration + my copy of the book never far out of reach.)

You're welcome!

Oh, that's yummy! Really sounds like Merry. I do like the mention of her being beautiful in a way different from hobbit girls, too. Being an adventurous sort, Merry would be lit up by something other than what he's used to, wouldn't he?

My, thanks for that! Very nice, very very very nice, indeed.

I don't see how he could fail to see her beauty, especially after the fight with the witch king, can you?

You're most welcome!

very lovely ! Especially the last line, I almost see Merry's face saying that with a slight emphasis on first

Oh, yes. Boromir's brother or not, Faramir's got some convincing to do.

Thanks!

Oh, this is wonderful! Merry's protectiveness and fondness, not to mention possessiveness, for Eowyn--how could he not love her so after she saved him from the shame of having to wait in Dunharrow. And he senses Eowyn's fragility, something others might miss, seeing her stubbornness and courage. Very sweet and cute. Thank you.

It's easy to forget that Merry thought she'd been killed as much as Eomer had. He wouldn't find out she had survived until after Aragorn woke him.

You're welcome!

This was truly wonderful! Merry´s way of looking at Eowyn and Faramir and Boromir. Such emotion in such a little place. I absolutely love this!

Ooooh. I do think Merry loved her, in a very straightforward, "lay down my life for you" kind of way. When Faramir came to speak with Merry about Eowyn, Merry might very well have been careful with what he said until he was sure this Man had good intentions.

I did not save her from the Witch King to watch her heart be broken once again.

Wonderful.

Yeah, it is a plotbunny isn't it, that conversation between the two of them? I wonder if anyone's written that gapfiller?

Thanks!

I was going to (I put references to it in my two Faramir/Merry/Pippin stories), but I think you hit this way out of the ballpark. Woosh.

On second thought...

I thought I saw my plotbunny sailing off over the Moon (how could anything I was going to write compare with this?) until on rereading I noticed something: " just the first to think he might command."

That's actually not Faramir's way, not that Merry knows that. And Pippin can't tell him...well, not directly. Hmmm....

I think my plotbunny has returned to me, muchly improved. :)

Never let anyone else's story quash your bunny. You're bound to see things a little differently, and oh, the joy of discovering someone else's insights! (F'rinstance, I can't get enough of Cormallen fics, no matter how many times I've read them!)

I wanna see the story!

Thanks!

Oh, yes. I'm glad that he gets a chance to come into his own in "Scouring of the Shire." Of all the hobbits, I think he's the one who most knowingly accepts the changes that the quest has wrought upon him.

Thanks!

Aaaah Merry. You've captured both his love and his protective/caring nature to a tee. You've given us so many emotions in deft, specific, exquisite strokes of the pen. Just wonderful.

And I have to say, though I don't comment on all of your drabbles, every time I see that you've written a new one it brings a smile to my face. You're a phenomenally talented author whose work I can't get enough of.

I'm glad you enjoyed this. And thanks for mentioning that you read the other drabbles too. I know how hard it is to come up with a coherent comment sometimes, but I can relish the thought that I am being read and enjoyed anyway!
