Guardians

Frodo was safe, and sleeping, but if Sam had been listening a-right at that Council, then their troubles were only just started. He went out onto the balcony that overlooked the valley, thinking, even though there was little use in his trying to find a way around what all the Elves and Dwarves and Wizards and Men had planned out. So he sat for a while, listening to the comfortable discussions of the waterfalls and wishing there was a way to bring some of the peacefulness of Rivendell along with him on the journey.

Far above him the stars glittered.

Ah - this is lovely. And of course, little does he know it, but there is a way to bring some of the peacefulness of Rivendell along... The guardian stars will be there throughout the journey, and Sam will have that special moment in Mordor.

Thank you for this, Rabidsamfan!

the comfortable discussions of the waterfalls

Oooh, nice. What a quiet, contemplative moment for Sam.

Thank you. It's a wonderful bunny, and I'm glad you like what I did with it.

Ooh, this really got me. What a beautiful moment - I love that the stars are looking down on him here even if he isn't aware of it, and that at the end that one lone star remains to give him peace in Mordor.

Ah, Sam. He might not have been able to figure anything out in Rivendell but none of those Wizards, Dwarves or anyone else could have done what he did. Thank you for this!

No one else really understood Frodo's dilemma, I think, except perhaps for Gandalf. I often wonder how the quest might have gone if Gandalf hadn't fallen in Moria, but I've never gotten enough of the bunny figured out to write it!

If you did write it, I take it that it would be longer than a drabble? ;)

I'd second [livejournal.com profile] shirebound: The comfortable discussion of the waterfalls is one of the quiet beautiful moments of this little scene. And the stars, of course. It's somehow sad, peaceful and comforting at the same time. Thank you.

Thank you. For some reason the waterfalls of Rivendell always seem like such an important part of Elrond's home. Maybe because when I was young we used to try to stay in cabins near mountain streams whenever we went on vacation...
