Home is the Hunter

When they reached the rim of the dell, Aragorn said that they would be safer riding upright than lying on litters while the horses negotiated the steep narrow path, and that it would be safer for the horses too. He was feeling much better by then, and it was almost a disappointment when Glorfindel nodded agreement and rendered all the careful arguments he had mustered useless.

His dignity solaced, he allowed the twins to boost him to the saddle, and let the horse find its own way down as he breathed deep of the welcoming scent of pine and spruce.

Loudwater Lullaby

On Longnight he danced with the others, and leapt the midnight bonfires, but afterwards he left the singing and went to the room which had always been his to wait for morning with the plashing and rumble of the waterfalls singing the sleepytime song of his childhood through the window.

Nice. How about one where Sam is forced to endure some well-deserved rest and pampering in Rivendell while his injured friends are tended to?

I hadn't thought much past the reunion with Frodo to be honest. But that might be fun.

Darn- still didn't find the time to read Mariole's story (I hope next week, but in the moment life is rather crazy over here).

On Longnight he danced with the others, and leapt the midnight bonfires, but afterwards he left the singing and went to the room which had always been his to wait for morning with the plashing and rumble of the waterfalls singing the sleepytime song of his childhood.

Heartwarming and beautiful. The second time you give me a surprising and exciting "glimpse" of Aragorn as a child!

Lol! I actually was thinking of the winter's solstice just before they went on the quest, but you're right, it's a glimpse into his childhood too.

Mariole's story is action/adventure/angst and my drabbles sort of follow from where she left off. But it's the most amazing thrill ride of a story! You'll enjoy it!

I actually was thinking of the winter's solstice just before they went on the quest...

Sure, but while reading the last two sentences, I suddenly had the imagination of a dark haired boy, lying in his bed and listening to the soft, rushing sound of the Rivendell Waterfalls.

*shoos the plotbunny back* I'd love to see what you'd do with a young Aragorn or his mother. Actually, I think I'd love to see what you'd do with her even more, considering all she lost and all she had to hold onto.

Aha - and why do you think I have a faible for tragic heroines with loves forever lost...?

Because you write living, breathing, believable women better than nine-tenths of fandom, my dear.

This is so sweet! You are much nicer than I am. Had I been writing this drabble, poor Aragorn would have experienced shooting pains in his sides, pitched off the horse, and hit his head on a rock. Then the avalanche would have come down. But that's just me! *hugs you*

Loved Estel's childhood room. Mmm, so vivid!

Considering how steep the sides of the valley are at Rivendell, he'd probably bounce all the way down and pitch into the river too. But I am merciful. And the horses are used to the path. And he's still gonna need help getting back down to the ground, you know.

Oh, no! Poor Estel! Right in front of Arwen, too. (How much you wanna bet he convinces Elrohir to let him ride?)

Arriving upright on horse (even if it means needing help down) vs. Arriving flat on back on stretcher = no contest

And besides, if she's the one who helps him down there can be advantages to this... Just as long as he doesn't appear too damaged to be kissed.

Knowing our Ranger, he's gonna meet that Elven lady the way he wants to -- my vote would be, lips first!

Really enjoyed the idea of Aragorn having carefully thought-out arguments as to why he NEEDED to be riding in to Rivendell . . .

Very nice . . . though I wouldn't mind him passing out, maybe, as they approach the house . . .

You've been talking to Mariole, I see. *grin*

He has been pushing himself, hasn't he? Silly Ranger!
