Leave Only Footprints

“This is well made,” Glorfindel told Sam when they came to the first snare.

“My Gaffer taught me how. Still, I didn’t catch no rabbits,” Sam admitted, working to free the knot and save the string for later.

“It could have been better placed,” Glorfindel said. “See there, where the small animals have worn a path to the stream? Did your Gaffer not teach you that too?”

Sam grinned, in spite of the rebuke. “Begging your pardon, Mr. Glorfindel, but my Gaffer’s notion of where to put a rabbit snare is by the hole in the fence round the cabbages.“

Yeah Sam. You tell it to Glorfidel.

After all your Sam drabbles, I want to say "oh. of course it's that way."

Oh, I love it! *dies, giggles*

My heart is melting from warm fuzzies over Glorfindel and Sam exploring their friendship in Rivendell (or so I presume). Wouldn't that be a thrill for our Sam -- hanging out with an Elf lord! What would the Gaffer say about that!

Actually I figured that Sam tried to set some snares while he was waiting for Glorfindel to send a rescue party. They're down to stale bread and dried fruit, and a bunny would have helped. But you can't leave snares behind and waste some poor rabbit's life can you?

Glad you enjoyed it! I've got another one still bubbling...

*slaps head* Of course they were! What was I thinking? And Sam is responsible enough to pick up his traps. Thank you for explaining in small words. *eats rabbit*

And hard on the rabbits, of course! (I wonder what rabbit and cabbage stew tastes like?)

Oh yes. Silly elf. Knows how to slay a balrog, but no single idea how to keep a garden properly.

*snorts*

Thank you, my dear. That's wonderful.

She tries to imagine elf with dirty knees from weeding...it must happen, mustn't it? But Glorfindel?

You're welcome!

Oh, this is one of my favorite things -- two unlikely people having a conversation, and learning from/teaching each other something. Very nice!

It's fun isn't it? And I love the idea that it isn't all one sided.
