Bottom of the Bin
“Dear Marigold,” it said, in her brother’s careful hand,
“I haven’t leave to tell you why, and I won’t, in case you find this before the flour’s gone, but like as not you already know I’ve gone a mite farther than Crickhollow. Mr. Frodo’s got to go, you see, and I’m to go with him and how far and how long is more than I know. But I’m like to see Elves, if Gandalf don’t turn me into a toad for writing you. Tell them that might miss me that I’m sorry I didn’t say more. Especially Dad.”
“Love, Samwise.”

Date: 2004-06-03 11:08 am (UTC)But Sam must have spent that summer saying goodbyes and wondering if he'd ever see places again too. He'd have to try to say something somehow.
Thanks

Date: 2004-06-03 01:53 pm (UTC)... so, I know that it's been said, but I just love the Sam-like feel of this drabble. It is so him. And he's such a dear older brother, he is.
*wants one* *is distracted* Oh Sammm. *sigh*

Date: 2004-06-03 07:10 pm (UTC)I always wondered about how, or rather if they told their families that they would go. This seems to be the perfect solution.
