Nothing longer is in decent shape so...
May. 31st, 2004 10:50 pm...I grabbed my copy of LotR and flipped it open, hoping for inspiration. This drabble is the result:
Gift
Three fragile strands of golden hair, braided together as gently as a goldsmith twists the wires of a brooch, wrapped around a button of wood, tucked into a pouch that once held lesser jewels, and hung from a thong that lies beneath his armor, so that the pouch falls near his heart.
I do not tell him that his ring of hair is the same size and shape as the Ring which Frodo carries next his skin. It is enough that I can see his eyes and remember why it was that once my people and his shared our lives.

Date: 2004-06-01 06:54 am (UTC)(BTW - - that scene when Legolas was with Gimli in the boat and Gimli told him "I asked for one hair, and she gave me three!", and Legolas' look and that small, understanding smile - it was one of the SEE-moments I missed most in the movie version. And I immediately thought of that while reading that drabble, that's why I ask).
