So, I went out this evening...

And marched around the North End of Boston with the Occupy Boston folks, as well as a whole lotta union folks, lots of older people (some of them clearly retirees), a few kids, and many other folks who are getting tired of the playing field being so very slanted right now. All shades of the human rainbow, too. Despite the rain and the cold it was a pretty decent, if noisy turnout and we walked for about two hours total. (We were escorted by cops the whole way, too, on either side.) Lots of media, too. And legal observers with notebooks who were happy not to have to write anything down. The chant of the evening was "Jobs Not Cuts". As one kid said to me, "I want to be a taxpayer. But first I need a job."
We meant to go to the Charlestown bridge and talk on it about how it needs repair. The cops wouldn't let us go on the bridge itself, but ironically, their line of "don't go here we're in riot gear" folks blocked traffic just as effectively as we would have. I mentioned that to one of the older cops and he sighed and said "long story..."
I'm hoarse, I tripped and fell (and nice people made sure I was all right, but my knee is coming up glorious colors), and I'm going to sleep like a rock, but it was a good experience. And there were lots of people looking out windows of hotels and things, some of whom were clearly cheering us on.
