[Error: unknown template qotd]No. Not ever. It's the wrong thing to do on so many levels it isn't even funny.

I work in a public library, and because of CIPA we have filters on the public computers. I've seen them block everything from fanfiction to Fox news. (Poor people aren't allowed to use the entire internet, you know.) This mechanism, if it is in place WILL be misused. It isn't a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Call your politicians, tell them this is the wrong thing to do.

That never occurred to me.

yup. When I had no internet access I went to the public library for my FF. net fix. Turns out, I wasn't able to post new stories from the library. Essentially, I was censored.

Can't agree enough with you. I really hope this monstrosity doesn't pass. I mean, I don't like nasty things any better than other people do, but I'm the first to admit that the definition of nasty is quite relative and individual, and since I don't want anyone else deciding what I can see, I don't think anyone should decide what anyone else should see either. I mean, it's just not RIGHT for one person to limit another's access to material and information. It's such a slippery slope.

Librarians especially are responsible for defending everything's right to be on the shelves...and that means on the 'Net, too, it being virtual shelving, so to speak.

*hugs and hopes*

I never knew about this. As for the blocking of anything, like Fox News or Fan Fiction... that's just rediculous.

Thanks for letting us know about this.

I did some research on one of the bill's supporters, John Conyer of Michigan. His wife has pled guilty to taking bribes, and he himself has been accused of, but not charged with, voting in favor of bills that are favorable for publishing companies when publishing companies helped to fund his campaigns.

Behavior like that makes me ashamed to have come from Michigan.
