I am reliably informed that the most popular variation on the game of "Tag" being played at one Boston school is called "Flush the Toilet".

Yes.

When you are tagged by IT, you have to crouch and hold up one hand with your forefinger extended. Your friends can free you back into the game by coming by and pushing your finger down, thereby "flushing the toilet" and letting you back into the game.

*nod* Yes, it's true. Would I lie to you?

I'd not heard of that! ;D I'll have to ask my kids if they've ever played that version of tag, see if it's a national thing!

I love it! It makes me feel good to know that kids are actually still playing tag, and coming up with variations on it, in spite of all the talk about how they are either stifled in their play from over-scheduling or by being so involved in video-games!

(Reminds me of a variation we used to play when I was in about sixth grade. "It" was the "bad guy", and you had to be unfrozen by a particular other player who was called "mommy", who could not be frozen by "it".)

That's hilarious! Though I still prefer shark tag. :-)

Never heard of that version, but at least they're out there running around!

Will agree with previous comments - at least they're running around! Will have to ask my kid if he's heard that version. He and his buds apparently spend 6th grade recess coming up with elaborate rules and characters for what they swear they're going to turn into a new videogame someday. The fact that it seems to involve a lot of running and jumping and shouting is just a side bonus, in their eyes.

Yep, I've heard of that version. Not sure I've ever played it that way, but it does sound familiar. :)
