He has the bearing of a soldier, or would, were it not for the left shoulder which no tailor can disguise as being even with the right. Shot in the back whilst running with the rest at Maiwand, my Army connections inform me, and yet he hasn't the heart of a coward. One of the roughs I sent to test his mettle ended up in hospital, and the other has yet to be released from jail. I begin to see what Holmes values in the man.

And I should have shot him while he was grieving by the Reichenbach Falls.

I have just this lunchtime finished watching Jeremy Brett's "The Empty House" and this drabble is just perfect.

Thank you. It was one of those rare drabbles which hit within a word or two of the 100 on the first try, so I'm rather pleased with it.

What a wonderfully villain-y thing to say. *grins*

I can just hear the voice...perfectly-turned drabble. Specially that first sentence, and the sense of grudging respect showing plainly through.

Yipes! Now THAT is a cold hearted villain! :-) But I love how you show so much of Watson's character even through the eyes of a sworn enemy. Very nice!

This is not on the topic of Sherlock Holmes but...

I was wondering what you thought of the "Higher Power of Lucky" book being banned from libraries because it had the word "scrotum" on the first page. Is it banned from your library?

I didn't ban it, but to be honest, I didn't think it was all that great a read, so I haven't exactly been pushing it at the children either. It was one of those "they gave the gold to the one that nobody on the committee truly hated" years, when the silvers were all better books.

Dangerous, is what he is, that Colonel Moran. I love that you wrote him as respecting Watson soldier-to-soldier, which I think he absolutely would.

Merg. X(

Moriarty is conniving and manipulative and creepy and loathsome. But Moran is just a bastard.
