rabidsamfanMuch to my surprise, the muffled sound of Jenny greeting the visitor was followed immediately by the sound of booted feet coming up the stairs. I pushed back the blankets, meaning to reach for my robe, but the aches of the previous day slowed me, and I was still sitting on the edge of the bed when the door opened to reveal Inspector Lestrade.
"Thank heaven you're safe," he said, slumping against the doorjamb with almost comical relief.
"I've had constables outside my doors all night," I pointed out testily.
"Yes, and thank heaven for that, too. Merridew's been murdered."
