Dear Yuletide Writer
Nov. 12th, 2009 10:42 pmI'll admit to being all excited about Yuletide this year, and am looking forward to whatever you write. In hopes of giving you some steering, though, I'll expand a little on my requests.
RequestFandom1: Ellis Peters - Inspector Felse series
RequestFandomChar1: Bunty Felse
RequestDetail1: I'd love to see a story which tells us Bunty's side of one George's cases, whether from a book we know, or an entirely new mystery. Bonus points if she helps him solve it. (And yes, I'd love to see Dom and George in the story, but I'd prefer to focus on Bunty.)
The Grass-Widow's Tale is one of my favorite books of all time, but I enjoy glimpses we get of Bunty in other books as well. She seems like such a level-headed and comfortable person that the times when she's pushed (like in Fallen Into the Pit) to losing her patience or when we glimpse her through another character kind of fascinate me. I'd be happy with anything that evokes the time and place of the stories, or that fills in a different side than we were shown in the books, but if your forte is writing loving relationships then by all means give me some George/Bunty smut to enjoy, plot or no plot!
RequestFandom2: The Avengers (tv)
RequestFandomChar2: John Steed/Mike Gambit/Purdey
RequestDetail2: I'd truly love a nice smutty threesome, but any story which focuses on Gambit will make me happy, smut or not.
Gambit hurt/comfort emphasis on the comfort, Gambit background, the three of them bantering things around, a different take on an existing episode or post-ep tag, even a wild and crazy adventure involving strange visitors from possibly another world... The choices are wide open. It's possible to find Steed/Emma fic around the net but there are very few writers who take on the New Avengers era, and the most prolific of them tend to write Steed/Purdey or Purdey/Gambit, while it's all three of them together that I enjoy the most.
RequestFandom3: Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes series
RequestFandomChar3: John H Watson/Wiggins
RequestDetail3: An adventure story where the Irregulars and Watson have to work together to pull Holmes's fat out of the fire. If you want to give Watson a romance, please do it with Holmes or Mary, not with any of the boys as pederasty squicks me. (But romance is not a necessity if you prefer not to write it.)
Mostly what I want is Watson and Wiggins having to deal with each other, one way or the other. Watson patching up one of the Irregulars, or Wiggins learning how to read and being indignant about how he's described. Wiggins as narrator, observing Holmes and Watson would also be fun, and you can play with the badly done Cockney or not, depending on what feels comfortable for you.
If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you may want to work in the Dancing Marquess. I know nothing about the man but what is at these two links:

and for a visual: http://www.sexoteric.com/blog/index.php/__show_article/_a000018-003658.htm
And that's all you need in the way of research, as far as I'm concerned. *waggles eyebrows* A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, after all.
RequestFandom4: The Lone Ranger (1949 tv)
RequestFandomChar4: The Lone Ranger/Tonto
RequestDetail4: A nice gen adventure story, or fragment of an adventure story, preferably with Tonto in danger/hurt and the Ranger having to rescue him/take care of him somewhere along the line.
I'd really rather you didn't slash these guys. I'm good with Tonto having broken English, as long as it's clear it's a pidgen, and not a lack of intelligence. (In fact, I've always thought he was the cleverer of the two. Did you know in the original books the silver bullets were his idea?) I'm more looking for some nice smarmy hurt/comfort. Give Tonto a fever, or explore the possibility that one of those times he got creased by a bullet it was worse than just a crease. Or throw a landslide at both of them and have Tonto take care of the Ranger and then just when the Ranger is starting to feel human again let Tonto's own injuries knock him flat so they have to reverse roles.
As you can probably tell, in general, I tend to enjoy hurt/comfort (with an emphasis on the comfort), humor, adventures, angst, mysteries, banter, and loving, guiltless smut. Hewing close to canon is always a good thing, and "missing scene" or things seen from a different angle please me mightily. Pederasty, hatesex, good characters doing bad things to each other, that sort of thing squicks me, in any fandom. I'm okay with cheerful non-monogamy in the Holmes-verse, but I'd probably take infidelity from the Felses quite badly unless it were written very tongue-in-cheek. I can take my favorite characters being tormented as long as their friends are frantic with worry and there's a happy ending. And I'll be honest, for my Yuletide story I'd prefer an ending that is, if not entirely happy, at least hopeful.
I hope you have fun writing! I'm sure I'll enjoy reading. Thanks!
And don't worry about the icon: I'd be happy with any of these fandoms!
