Racing Darkness: Sam

Just a little farther, Bill, I tell you, and a little more than that, until you must think I've no sense at all about ponies and their bellies which can't be filled when no one stops long enough to let them eat. I don't suppose that Elf's got a special drink for ponies too. But I've some oats for you I've saved, since there's been no chance to have a fire. At least your load's got lighter as we've gone along and et the most of it. And you can eat grass, which wouldn't do me no good at all.

Wow, I love this series! Every one of them is wonderful. Go, my heroes! And pet Frodo -- he could use it. The poor sweeties!

Thank you. I'm still considering Frodo and Glorfindel's points of view. But you're right about poor Frodo needing some comforting.

Gorgeous, all of them. And they will be part of the next Rabidsamfan-drabble-collection on my site, of course. Brava!

Oh, goody! It's always fun to know that other folks get a chance to see these (even if I don't know what they say about them.)

Thank you. I can see Sam trying to encourage the pony along, and dinner is always encouraging...

Just worrying about Bill to keep his mind off other things by any chance? Not that Bill isn't worth any worrying over of course. I always thought horses (and ponies!) had it better because they can eat grass. If humans could eat grass there'd be a lot less hungry people!

In some ways I think that they were lucky that they had to buy Bill back in Bree. Merry's ponies were probably pretty pampered, and wouldn't have been able to hold up to the kind of pressure on that leg of the journey. Whereas Bill doesn't expect to get a chance to rest, much...
