rabidsamfan: (arboreal ape)
[personal profile] rabidsamfan
"What on earth is an arboreal ape doing in the library?" The girl with frizzy hair asked. "And why is it chasing that butterfly?"

"Hey, Potter! When did you turn Weasley into a monkey?"

The sound of the ensuing chaos echoed down the halls and penetrated the large, nail-studded door which protected a certain small room. The figures slumped in the battered chairs there didn't move. Chaos was a normal state of affairs for any large building stuffed with adolescents. It wasn't until the poltergeist squeezed frantically through the keyhole and took refuge in the chandelier that the tall man in black reached for the pile of straws on the table.

"No fair transfiguring mine to be the longest straw this time, Minerva," he warned. "You'll take your chances with the rest of us."

"Or what?"

"Or I'll stop dosing the Weasley twins' pumpkin juice of a morning. Now draw."

If you're wondering why this happened, it's in response to the challenge I mentioned here

What's that? Transfiguration charms gone crazy? *snorts with laughter* And what for heaven's sake does our favorite potions master pour into the pumpkin juice of Fred and George?

If you had to face the Weasley twins in class every day wouldn't you find some way to blunt their enthusiasm?

Thanks.

(And I hope you enjoy the reading! I'm sure you'll have an entirely different take on it than I do.)

*is intrigued*

Is this a crossover, then? I followed your link and saw that there was a crossover challenge with HP and... ?UU University. I don't know that second one, so I can't identify any elements from non-HP sources, but I suspect that the "arboreal ape" might have some connection, and maybe the man in black isn't Snape but rather another character from somewhere?

Sorry for my ham-handed speculation, but I am rather curious! :)

It is a crossover, to the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. The librarian of the Unseen University got turned into an orangutan by a magical accident, and he does not like being called a monkey.

L-space, which connects big book collections, and chaos butterflies, are both also concepts sliding over from Pratchett.

But the man in black is still Snape. You know the folks in the staff room at Hogwarts take turns quelling the riots.

*giggle* Personally, I'd love seeing the librarian from the UU coming to spend a semester or two at Hogwarts--maybe a librarian-exchange program? LOL!
