For those of you who've ever had root canals, how much sore was sore afterwards? I got through the process fine, and then blew it and ate, so I had to go back and have him redo the temporary filling after the novocaine was starting to wear off and now, a few hours later, despite the vicodin, I've got to admit I'm really uncomfortable in the tooth department...

He said it would be sore, though, so I'm not precisely panicking. I'm just, well, wondering...

Mmm, I don't really remember it hurting much at all. Did the dentist say if you could take ibuprofen or acetaminophen along with the vicodin?

I've had several root canals and they were sore afterwards, but not excrutiatingly painful. I've never been given anything stronger than 800mg of Advil for them, either. My dentist seems to be more stingy with the drugs than yours. If you're really uncomfortable, I'd give the dentist a call and explain how you're feeling, just to make sure everything is okay.

I agree with Meeshie. I was sore afterwards, but not painful in a way that concerned me. Calling your dentist is a very good idea.

Call your dentist if the pain is severe. A little soreness is normal but bad pain is not.
