rabidsamfan: samwise gamgee, I must see it through (Default)

He'd wanted Slytherin, just to prove to his mother that it didn't matter who she'd chosen for his father after all, and the Sorting Hat had obliged him. And he got along, really, though there were times when he watched the boys in the other houses and wondered what might have been instead.

Ravenclaw would have been all right, at least no one would have copied his homework there; and the Hufflepuffs were quietly happy with each other. But if the hat had said Gryffindor he knew that would have made everything different.

Pettigrew didn't know how lucky he was.

Oh, WOW, what a terrific idea. EVERYTHING would have been different. Great AU -- I'm seeing an entirely different world. Would Voldemort have killed Lily and James? Would he not have been destroyed by Harry? Would the Order manage to stomp him out for good the first time around? There's a whole AU series lurking in this drabble.

Yes, indeed. Of course, if Snape had been one of the Marauders there might not have been a roof left on the building by the time they were ready to leave school... Can you imagine logical investigation and experimentation added to that heady mix?

I like that perspective. One moment can trigger and tug at the making of future events.

I really like how you ended it.

Thank you! I was rather pleased, at I haven't managed to write anything for weeks.

I know, I try to write, but time somehow excapes me. I have to get up early or stay up late to find time to write. I am trying to write a short story right now, and my element of focus is creating the world for the characters. Sometimes I go weeks without working on it.

Oh, what an interesting thought. Jealous of Pettigrew? That adds a nice twist to the dynamic we see at the start of HBP. I love the way your mind comes up with these things, and then the powerful way you express them.
