After the Wedding

After the third time I looked up from the agony columns to point out an item of interest to your empty chair I reached for the hypodermic. It's not as if you were sitting there grumbling through your mustache at my wretched habit, though it must be confessed that the drug has lost some of its savor without your disapproval. But solace me it must, lest I spend the entire evening listening for the skitter of your pen across the pages of your diary. Solitude is not the haven it once was for me.

I am lost without my Boswell.

[livejournal.com profile] hyelandia has been doing a challenge where she tries to write thirty drabbles in thirty fandoms in thirty days, and I sort of stared at it, because I wasn't sure I could even think of thirty fandoms. But after sorting through some of my books I realized that I do have quite a few. So, since I'm trying to get the writing muscle working in spite of the start of Summer Reading Club, I'm going to see what I can do. Here's the first, from Sherlock Holmes.

Squee! Sherlock Holmes!

Am writing a short story myself for this short story contest and I am also using the SH fandom. It's rather difficult to get a handle on the writing style isn't it? I love the long flowing descriptions though. It's so... proper.

You have to read a good bit of Watson to get the flow, true, but it's worth it. I have loved Sherlock Holmes since I was twelve.

Tis a set of books and they're huge. The short stories take two volumes. (Which I've got.) There will, I hope, be another volume with the four novels at some point.

Quite droolworthy.

OOOhh! This is brilliant! I will have to give this some thought--like you, I don't know if I can even *think* of thirty fandoms. And the truth is, I've never written in *any* other fandom than LotR! Hmmm...

I've written in other fandoms, although oddly enough, most of them aren't the ones that are coming to mind as I try to do this...

Ooooh, perfect Holmes voice, just perfect. That you should slip effortlessly from this into an equally perfect Jonny Quest and McCoy in the next drabbles is really an amazing feat of ventriloquism. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Thank you. I'm still trying to put together a list of thirty to do, so feel free to make suggestions. I love trying to get a "voice" right.

I haven't always got some of the other fandoms you've written for so far (Jonny Quest - huh?) but this. This is spot on. It makes me go awww, bless. I love H/W.

Jonny Quest was a cartoon that was actually first shown in prime time way back at the beginning of the 60s, although I remember it from Saturday mornings. Very much action adventure, spy movie motivated.

Aww! I just wrote a Sherlock one today and dammit if you didn't write just what I should have. I didn't have the guts to write Sherlock's POV right off the bat. This is brilliant, thank you for writing it.

...I didn't think I had 30 fandoms either, until I started writing down all the fandoms I felt I could write in, and I turned up with way more than thirty! I think it's wonderfully invigorating.

It's fun -- at least when I have the braincells to attack it. I can't do one a day, though. Ideas come in bunches.

And I'm glad you like my Sherlock.
