spammy commenters

I just changed my settings so that anonymous comments have to be screened. This is so I can delete the ones which have links to porn sites, organ enhancers, and other annoyances before they end up boosting some idjits google ranking.

If you haven't got your journal set up so that you get e-mail notification when someone comments, you may want to enable it again. None of these spam-comments have hit recent entries, they're all "commenting" on things at least a month old. Without the e-mail notifications, I wouldn't even know I was being annoyed.

I have a couple of friends who don't have their own blogs, but occasionally comment in mine for one reason or another, or I'd ban 'em entirely. It's only a minor problem just now, though -- maybe three in the past month. knock wood...

Oh goodness... eek. I'm so glad I haven't had that happen...as far as I know...yet.

I'd had a couple of them in December, but they're popping up more now. Grrr... Not even bothering to pretend to be interested in what I've posted now. I delete anything with a "look at my website!" line unless I already "know" the person.

Good lord. I've heard of other people having similar problems. At least some of those comments are being generated not by people but by bots, so yeah, they wouldn't make an effort to personalize the advertisement to your post.

It's all very depressing. Gah.
