The plumber's come and gone again,
that man with greying hair,
a mustache like a caterpillar,
and apologetic air.

Last fall he fixed my toilet seal,
and I was grateful then.
Today he came and fixed the heat,
Most glorious of men!

"There's nothing so much wrong,"
he said, but took the thing to bits
And now the furnace purrs along,
Before it was the pits.

So here's to them that fixes things
The men (and women too!)
I'd hate to have to learn it all,
I'd rather call on you!

*deep breath*

'Twas on the Monday morning, the gasman came to call
The gas tap wouldn't turn, I wasn't getting gas at all,
He pulled out all the skirting board to try to find the mains:
And I had to call a carpenter to put them back again....

(know that one?)

The world would be a sad place indeed without the people who fix things for us. Lovely poem. :)

What a perfect poem!

And I'm ever so glad you got your furnace fixed, and you can be warm again.

We got our first *ever* gas bill today (we've always lived in an all-electric house before). *YIKES!*

You poor bunny. I'm learning things about my furnace all the time. It's forced air, so I need to change the filter every thirty days. ... it's got a FILTER? *blink* *blink*

Glad to see you online! Not too much damage from the storm, then?

Never fear - only half a dozen disheveled trees and a fallen parasol. And an uneasy night with the storm rattling the shutters loud enough to keep me awake. *yawns*

But we have been lucky. There have been eleven people dying in the hurricane in Germany (more than forty in Europe), and thousands sat during the night in the railway stations while trains stopped to prevent more human damage.
