Been writing about poor Watson having nightmares, right?

So, naturally, I had a nightmare wake me up.

But instead of something useful, or traumatic, like monsters, what did I have a nightmare about?

Buying shoes...

They were really ugly shoes, okay?

It's a lot funnier if you've been working with kids for the past twenty years, trust me, but it's bound to give you a giggle too.

"Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!"

been meaning to do this one for a couple of days... been popping up all over my flist.

1. Mike was hauled along, into the alleyway that led down to the river, past the lights coming on in window after window, and he didn't dare look back to see Dan's face because he knew he was dead for sure, but he didn't know if Dan had escaped the explosion or it was a vengeful ghost that had him by the collar.

2. The orders came for one last mustering of the army troops before the ship's crew made fast the hawsers, one last dance to bugle and drum on the cramped and cluttered deck of the Orontes.

3. I knew I had to get back to Holmes, to warn him, but I was not in the least certain which direction I should go, nor whether I still had the power to walk.

4. "Guy Fawkes," I said, and he blinked away the haze of another vision.

5. It was disconcerting to discover just how much effort stoicism could cost in the face of unrelenting pain.

6. Sam would have liked to just stand there for a long time and think about what it felt like to be hugged and kissed by someone who definitely wasn't his mum, but there wasn't time.

7. There was something about the man's pale green eyes that made her feel like a bug with one wing gone and a magnifying glass overhead.

8. They got Mrs. Hudson out o' the cellar first and then Dr. Watson, and they puts them in an ambulance and goes off, and the policeman goes off too after closin' the door, so's I sets me mates to watchin' every way into the house as we can and there we stayed until Mr. Holmes come home on Friday.

9. Purdey looked down at the inferno and didn't ask herself why she felt so cold.

10. But he would always quiet down for her, when he wouldn't for the nurses, or the intern with the nasal whine who insisted on citing all the reasons why he would never wake up again.

Hmmm.... There are more, buried on my computer. But these will do.
