The orcs threatened me with chains, never knowing that I was trembling with the newness of freedom. For almost a day I’ve been burdenless, freed of obligation, free to fall into fear and let it take me like a friendly, treacherous current into the darkness I crave.

But you have come, with song and bitter hope, and the end of the dreams I’d barely begun to dream. How can you be so strong and weak? How can you be so cruel and gentle? Just once, couldn’t you have disobeyed me?

I am bound again by a single link of gold.

Oh my goodness. This is a return to your powerful drabbles before. It took me a while to figure out who was speaking but once I did (that is, I think I did), I shivered.

Thank you for this.

This is terrific. I love this Frodo voice; it's a paradoxical way of looking at Sam's rescue of him, and its bitterness is surely influenced by the Ring itself. Wonderfully effective ending.

Dear Lord. This is like a needle of ice. Absolutely painful, absolutely brilliant.

You're back! *hugs Beleg*

Actually, that applies to both of you, because, RSF, this is utterly classic. Beautiful, clear, perfectly in voice, and devastating, exactly the way you write. *applauds* *hugs RSF*

This is so sad! Cirith Ungol... *shudders* Yet this is a very unsual look at the scene. Poor Frodo.

Very well done!

Oh, ouch! And it's all the more painful because Frodo's thoughts feel very real.

Oh. This is so painful and so powerful and so poignant. Poor Frodo--it's just how he must have felt. So hurt, so bitter.

Oooh that Ring...grrr...I hate it...

Very powerful writing and it makes perfect sense that Frodo would hope that his burden was removed through no fault of his own. I never thought that he might feel this way at this point in time, but it is a logical assumption. And I can so see him resenting Sam's actions, if only for a moment. Sigh. Such a complicated, twisting story. Thanks for yet another take on it.

Nice. Had to read it twice to find the voice. At first I thought it was Gollum just after he had been released from the Dungeons.

Wow! I'd never thought that Frodo might be relieved when he thought the orcs had taken the ring.
