Sometimes I think that the powers that be need a good loud raspberry.

Just posted an HP fic at ff.n. Posted another one a few days ago.

Seems that the entry blocks for the TITLE and SUMMARY of stories won't accept certain characters.

Like a slash.

Or parentheses.

Or apostrophes.

Hell, I couldn't even use a decimal point in the title of one piece. (Although to be fair it would probably have shown up in the summary.)

And this promotes good use of grammar how?

In all fairness, there may be something going amiss with the code on their site. PHP can be a bugger when it feels like it. (I had similar problems like the above with a database I was creating.)

In that case I shall be fair and transfer at least half of my useless outrage to the programmers who wrote the code.

Fie! Fie! I say unto thee!

You know, I had to change the name of my drabble and ficlet collection because of that. At Stories of Arda, it is called The Multi-Faceted Mr. Frodo. I had fun with the double alliteration. However, you guessed it. No hyphen allowed at FF.net. So it got changed to ... gosh... I can't even remember. Something like The Many Facets of Mr. Frodo which I don't like as much (while it kept the general meaning and alliteration, the rhythm wasn't was nice).

Why, oh why? Who knows.

They sure don't explain if you write them a letter about it!

For the most part, that site doesn't seem to be concerned with grammar much at all. There is great stuff there, but looking for it makes my head hurt.

It's frustrating, because there are some very good aspects to the site. But my patience isn't as great as it once was.

And now they don't have the category of miscellaneous movies? :(

I don't think so. It confused me when I wanted to post my Pianist fics.

I've had to get quite creative at ff.net, regarding the use (or not-use) of dashes, slashes, and asterisks. *sigh*

It's like they're trying to find ways to cut down the number of users...

Seeing posts like this make me glad I never used ff.net. I tried, when I first started, but the name I wanted was "taken", and I couldn't think of another at the time, so I just never tried again.

You get a lot of hits from people who wouldn't find your stories otherwise, and it's a very easy submission process. But some of the limitations that got put in place because of people who abused the system are worse than the original problem.

It's not limited to the Titles and Summary, either, although I've noticed it more there. I posted a ReBoot story recently, and the "title" used by one character in the story itself is "Command.Com" ...for some reason the entire word was deleted. I can only think it had something to do with the "." O_o

And yet, I still post stuff there....

Yeah, they don't want any links in the text of the story so I can see where the ".com" construction would get sliced and diced.

That's the problem with an unfiltered archive I guess.

This can be another reason why I don't care to visit or use ffnet anymore. Bah! I remember when I actually liked the site...
