Just a drabble bunny, or two, or three, because I'm a little blank at the moment, and I need to write something as a distraction but haven't the concentration for anything longer.
Bunny #1: Elrond's council is over, and Sam has made sure Frodo has gone to bed. Now Sam stands at one of the balconies, alone with the stars, thinking about what his master has pledged to do... and what is ahead for them.
Bunny #2: Sam in the Rivendell kitchens and storerooms, making sure that they Fellowship (and particularly his master) will have enough variety of food for the journey.
Bunny # 3: Sam tries to remove the last remnants Saruman and GrĂma left behind from Bag End, to give Frodo back his "proper" home. He finds one of Frodo's forgotten books, dirty and smeared. What would he think?
Yeah, I'm mostly okay. And you've done it, thanks, by responding to my plea. I just am really really bad at funerals, I can't cope with open caskets at all, and I've got to go to one tomorrow, and it's not like a family funeral where if I didn't show up people would rag me about it, so the only person really making me go is me.
Arwen has been jolted out of reality by a premonition of a dreadful doom, which Eowyn sees only her reaction to, which will fall on Aragorn from some leftover servant of evil (maybe Shelob, who never worked for Sauron anyway, and is supposed to have survived into the fourth age.) Much as Aragorn may be an interference in their love life, he is also someone they have both loved, and the King, and besides Shelob is evil and dangerous (and possibly pregnant - why can't giant spiders be parthenogenetic?) Aragorn is off subduing some Southrons or Easterlings, Arwen has been left in charge of the kingdom, but this is important. Does Eowyn have to pick up her sword and go defend her king? Will Arwen appoint someone else regent and go with her - and then turn out to be pregnant - and will Aragorn die anyway, leaving our virtuous heroines rewarded for their constancy?
I'm afraid I'm a big Eowyn+Faramir fan, so the pairing wouldn't work in my hands (although it might in yours, go for it) but I can see some possibilities in bringing Shelob down from the mountain, perhaps... I can't imagine Eowyn letting her swordskills go too rusty.

Date: 2004-06-30 02:50 am (UTC)Here's a plot bunny. You know that fanon idea that when he first sees him, Sam thinks Frodo is an Elf?
Another plot bunny: Sam taking a break during the cleanup after the Scouring of the Shire, perhaps at Bag End.
