Very much just a snippet tonight, as I have deleted twenty-five twenty six versions of Legolas' retort.

help!

*****

Beryllia was glad to get Frodo's message and immediately set to making both sorts of eggs. Catrienne smacked Bergil's fingers before he could find out whether or not the berries in the bowl were ripe enough to serve and then made him wash his hands and face again before allowing him and Ansell to carry the trays out to the dining hall. There was plenty of food. Fresh berries, clotted cream, salt cod cooked to a nice turn, bread and griddle cakes and eggs, of course. The King's Companions fell on the bounty with cries of delight. Even the tall Elf was quick to fill his plate, and the Dwarf, arriving behindhand and still twisting the braids in his beard, exclaimed with dismay. "Twas only last night you feasted, Master Greenleaf! Do leave some for the mortals among us."

"Twas only last night you feasted, Master Greenleaf! Do leave some for the mortals among us."

"Of course, Master Dwarf", the elf replied with a twinkle in his brilliant eyes, "but it was a lection I was taught by mortals that every day should be used well... including breakfasts."

Laughing in delight!

While I, too, would love to see the deleted retorts, I *do* like your suggestion!

(And hope RSF won't stay "stuck" for too long...)

Legolas smiled with exaggerated graciousness at the dwarf and replied, "You may bite me, Gimli son of Gloin."

Gimli did.

Thus began the first major Dwarf/Elf conflict of the Fourth Age.
