I think I've forgotten what it means to feel warm.

It's slipping away, somehow, the way my parents' faces did. Once, I looked through the sketchbook where Aunt Dora immortalized her friends and relations with determination if not talent. I'm certain that Father's chin didn't have quite that shape, but when I close my eyes I see him the way she drew him. It's better than nothing, but it's not the same as remembering.

Strider foregoes caution to make fires larger than we need. Merry and Pippin tease each other gently. Sam wraps blankets around me.

It's better than nothing.

I do love this. mmm.

Are you doing all four? Because if you are, I want to be Dana-like and completely shallow and keep Pippin for last.

*shakes head in awe*

I actually counted the words. I can't believe you said so much about Frodo in his present, his past, and his future (the theme of being unable to remember....) in 100 words.

Oh, LOVELY! Frodo comparing his memory of feeling warm and his parents' faces is especially touching, and as always, the last line wrecks me. Thank you for this!

Oh my goodness--how do you *do* this in 100 words? Frodo, his grief for his parents, the burden of the Quest, Weathertop, all there without ever being specifically mentioned.
And that last line--a killer!

Just the image of that picture being the last thing Frodo has to hold onto in his mind, when his own memory of his father's face has become so faint is evocative in itself. And then you twin it with the memory of warmth fading...

Wow. How do you do it? You should start some kind of drabble workshop or tutorial! ;)

I liked the Pippin one, but this one REALLY hit home. The bit about pictures (or in this case, drawings) becoming more real to a person than the memory is SO spot-on. This is lovely and so powerful. Thanks for sharing it!

I love both of these (and I was one of the ones who voted for Pippin, as he did look so cold in the movie), but this one has such a wonderful atmosphere--the physical warmth of Strider's fire, the personal warmth of the relationships, and Frodo's loss of both.

This is was lovely! I love how you tied it into memory of people, and that's such a true thing because there really is no moment but the present and everything else is just like a dream, where things can be distorted and all.

The part about his parents' faces is very believable Frodo p.o.v.

Really love this one as well~ i always like various authors' portrayals of how Frodo felt, what he thought in those long nights from Weathertop to Rivendell. =) sorry for not commenting earlier but i really like this~
