From several people:

1. The character you first fell in love with:

Sam. And maybe Frodo.

2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now:

Theoden. Bernard Hill really made the Rohan real to me, and Theoden in particular.

3. The character everyone else loves that you don't:

Well, I can't think of a character that everyone else loves... we all have different tastes. But I'm not terribly fond of most of the elves, most of the time. Probably the reason I still haven't read the Silmarillion. Although I have a sneaking interest in Elrond...

4. The character you love that everyone else hates:

Rosie. Although, again, I don't think everyone hates her. I know she doesn't get much time in the book, but the little she does tells me a lot about her, and her relationship with Sam.

5. The character you used to love but don't any longer:

Hmmm. That's a hard one. There are certain takes in fanfic on various characters that I've gotten impatient with, but no one in canon, really.

It's interesting you should mention Theoden, because he was always a huge favourite of mine (after Aragorn, of course--everyone had to stand in line behind Aragorn). And, yes, a wonderful bit of casting. I've always liked Bernard Hill, and he has just the right face and bearing for the part.

Theoden actually gets as much "page time" as several members of the Fellowship in the book, but it's hard to notice that unless you go looking.
