rabidsamfan: samwise gamgee, I must see it through (Default)
[personal profile] rabidsamfan

I haven't been on LJ much lately, which is a shame, but my brain has been attacked by pollen, and everything is rattling around in there.

Still, I came on today and there's a meme running around, which requires nothing of me but a cursory expertise with Excel.

So here it is.

Using just the stats from FF.N (Because I am too gogglebrained at the moment to hunt out the hits etc. elsewhere.)

ETA: the links below won't work, so go to http://www.fanfiction.net/~rabidsamfan to find all the stories.

Top ten by hits:

Call for the Doctor

327,898

100 Words to Baker Street

37,490

Brothers in Bond

32,074

Drabbles of Deduction

29,581

Emotional Level

18,828

Glimpses

16,189

Sink the FRIESLAND

12,410

Decidedly So

8,630

A Decided Genius

8,580

Consequences

6,109

But that's not really fair, since "Call for the Doctor" has 222 (very short) chapters.

Top ten by hits/chapter:

Triage

3284

Patching Things Up

2941

Retreat

2294

Brothers in Bond

2004.625

Loyaulte Me Lie

1896

Quarantine

1834

Call for the Doctor

1477.018

The Detective Who Cried Wolf

1357

Drabbles of Deduction

1344.591

A Decided Genius

1225.714

Okay, that's a bit fairer.  But some of those stories are a lot longer than others.  How about hits/word?

Brothers in Bond

18.90041

Call for the Doctor

13.7836

Drabbles of Deduction

10.27118

Emotional Level

8.789916

100 Words to Baker Street

7.120608

Coda: Granada's Mazarin Stone

7.101266

Sink the FRIESLAND

5.125981

Patching Things Up

2.548527

Scandalous Thinking

2.415094

Consequences

1.939365

Hm.. Still doesn't take into account how long some of those stories have been floating around the 'net.  How about hits/review?  I mean, if people realy like the story, they say something, don't they?   In this case, the lower the number, the better.

Nest

8

Speed the Plow

20.83333

Cauld, Cauld

35.33333

And Nothing Can We Call Our Own

36.9375

The Ringbearer and the Rose

40.76923

Between Now and Forever

41.71429

Unlucky

42.75

Fell Winter

44

10 x 100

51

Fourteen Days

53.55263

So "Nest" with only 16 hits in total, actually wins.  Cool.

SPEED THE PLOW.

*bwee*

I do so love this meme, even though I turned off my own hit counters.

I had so much fun writing that story -- even if I was blushing the whole time. And even more fun reading the comments the next morning!

I clicked on three of these and they each required an ff.net login. Is that because of the way they're linked, or do I really need one to read them?

Oh, crap. I'll see if I can figure out how to fix the links. They're linked to the preview from the stats so I don't add to my stats by looking at my own stories and for once in my life I used the Rich text editor instead of the html editor because I was sleepy.

You can get all my stories by clicking on my "Other writings" link at the top of my LJ, though.

ETA: fixing the individual links would be a major exercise in time, so here's the general link:

They're all there. Sorry! It never occurred to me to look at the links...

Ah, I have to thank you. This meme sent me to 100 Words to Baker Street. Lovely!

...and the others. There went my evening!

Ah - The Ringbearer and the Rose! Still love it to pieces, and I fondly remember how it felt to translate the glorious prosa of that scene when all of Hobbiton explodes in that miraculous growth of Spring.

You're one of the major reasons it ever got finished. I was rereading my old LotR fics recently and do you know you commented on almost every single one? (And the only one you missed you commented on the series a day or so later.)

Well, I'm a fan, luv, and I will always be. *grins* I still tell everyone who wants to hear that you're a far better writer than I am.

Thought I'd leave birthday wishes here since there's already a bit of a thread. I hope you had a great day and managed to get some relaxation/fun in. You got a weekend birthday this year, which are always among the best kind, I find. :-)

Hope you're well. All the best.

This is Timeless, btw.

Thanks, Timeless!

So far it has been the birthday of Bad Decisions, but I think I can improve on it...
