Ring is 'nyel' in Sindarin and bear is 'lis' or 'mat'. However, the 'bear' this refers to is an animal and I was not able to find a synonym to the proper usage. Try this site. http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/index/indexs01.htm. You may have to poke around a bit.
Neat website. I'll have to play there if I ever find the braincells. Think I'm going to go with Cormacolindo, since it's straight out of the book, but I'm glad it wasn't Naz-something... Too close to Nazgul.
I dunno why Cara deleted her comment, cuz it was right. The people would be speaking the same language in Ithilien as they would in Minas Tirith.
Long live the Halfings! Praise them with great praise! Cuio i Pherian anann! Aglar'ni Pheriannath! Praise them with great praise, Frodo and Samwise! Daur a Berhael, Conin en Annun! Eglerio! Praise them! Eglerio! A laita te, laita te! Andave laituvalmet! Praise them! Cormacolindor, a laita tarienna! Praise them! The Ring-bearers, praise them with great praise!
Thank you! And I guess the singular is Cormacolindo, so I'm all set now. At least as soon as I find the time to write! *stares at pile of work, panics*
Just to mention, as I'm not sure if you realize, Cormacolindo seems to be Quenya, not Sindarin. (But better Quenya than English?)
All sorts of dictionaries here: http://www.councilofelrond.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Dictionary&file=index [And Sindarin names elsewhere on that site.]
And there's a nice free downloadable Sindarin dictionary here: http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar/downloads.html
Kudos for your wonderful Bergil on behalf of a couple of non-reviewers. eiluj (who once upon a time was a children's librarian too)
Quenya? Ooooh, that'a even better, given who I plan to hand this to.
It's a common enough usage that the host at Ithilien knew it, Quenya or Sindarin, so I'm safe regardless, but the more "academic" (and/or "pretentious") the better for the bunny that is nibbling on my heels.
