Deception

John had asked for her, Mike said, specifically asked for her, and was fighting the doctors who wanted him to rest, so Molly had to go, had to

pretend

that she didn't have a secret, the secret, bubbling up inside her chest like laughter.

But John's pale faced sobered her, and his stammered words of comfort snuffed out her joy.

"Sherlock... He told me to... he mentioned you... by name..." John couldn't look her in the eye, but his hand was crushing hers.

"He said to tell you... goodbye."

And Molly knew it was a lie, and found her tears.

Johnnnnnn!

A completely unexpected side effect of this second series for me was my new, intense liking for Molly. I didn't precisely mind her before, but she was a rather one-dimensional character who was put there for precisely one plot point, and didn't inspire much emotion beyond a vague sort of pity. I applaud your handling of her here, and her pain at having to keep something this huge and terrible from John.

You rip my heart out every time, but you do it so skilfully that I just can't mind.
