Today was longer, and better, than most of the days I've had of late, which is good, but it means I'm not going to be able to get anything written tonight. Tomorrow may be long too -- it's certainly going to start early enough!

But don't fret. The bunnies are biting. Here's a drabble to keep you.

Winter in Hollin

The rain they’d left behind at last, and the dark nights were not so dark. Colder of course; a clear sky always meant cold this time of year. But that didn’t matter. Frodo could hear Sam and Pippin singing softly as they walked.

“The joy of winter is the sky,
so blue and bright it greets the eye.
The sunrise burnished bright with gold,
is warmest when the air is cold,
And sunset too is warm and red.
And when the sun has gone to bed,
The moon shines with a kindly light
And guides us safely through the night.”

Oh that's nice. And what a lovely, perfectly hobbity song. I can just hear them singing it. *sigh*

Thank you. (They'll be singing it correctly, thanks to a reviewer with sharper eyes than mine...)

Beautiful song (from someone who "can't write poetry". Ha Ha.) I fear I will have to borrow it for a "Winter Solstice"-chapter...

By all means. But if you do, get the corrected version...

Sunset instead of Sunrise, isn't it? *grins* (And I didn't notice it...) Stunning beautiful and sweet, again, and you'll find it in chapter 9 of BIGS. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

That's very sweet. I can just hear Pippin singing that.

You repeated the word "sunrise", though. Is the second one meant to be "sunset"?

Such a hobbity poem! Sounds as if it ought to have been found in the original!

*hugs*

LUVERLY. The poem is perfect. I have the *damndest* time writing hobbit-songs, so I'm extra-impressed at this. What a nice pressie for your f-list!

Why thank you. It's a good thing hobbity poems and doggerel are close enough to get away with, isn't it? *wink*

I'm glad you liked it!
