Twelve cases in ten days, and if a few have been the sort that Sherlock can solve in one incisive burst of sardonic superiority, most of them have required a trip to the crime scene at the least and this last one has required a trip to the clinic, because John doesn't keep a packet of sutures in his pocket and he'd rather trust Sarah to do the patchwork anyway when he's this tired. It's gone midnight by the time he steers Sherlock home and begins to rummage the cupboards for anything edible.
