On an impulse I went and saw the new Karate Kid movie tonight. I'd seen a couple of trailers, and I liked the original, so why not? Couldn't be too bad.

It was wonderful.

I mean, opening night crowd enthusiasm and all that, but how often have you been in a dark movie theater pounding your hands together mid-movie as if the people on the screen could hear you? And it wasn't just me, it was the whole audience.

Great scenery, good story, Jackie Chan thoroughly enjoying his role, and Jaden Smith showing us that he's going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next several decades! Stick around for the production stills they have during the end credits... This one is going definitely going into my "Buy the DVD" list, because I want to see the extras almost as much as I want to watch the film again!

Wow, sounds great! I was afraid it was just one of those unnecessary remakes.

They kept the essence of the storyline without insisting on everything being identical. I left the theater grinning.

I saw it, too, and enjoyed it. I still think I like the original better, lol, but this was really good. I liked the story, the acting was great, and it just left me feeling good.

Jayden Smith is definitely going to be someone to watch for in future.

It's on my "Watch"-list since I saw the trailer (and not only because I'm such a huge Jackie Chan fan).

Oh! I remember the Karate Kid films too and was wondering if it is worth the effort to see the new one. Now I just might. :)

Thanks.

If nothing else, the casting has nicely defused that unpleasantly racial tinge from the original of the Magical Oriental Servant Teaching His Mystical Knowledge to the White Hero. Yeah, thanks for helping me to save the day and win the white chick, Mr. Miyagi, now go back to humbly mowing my lawn and trimming my hedges.

And, well, Jackie Chan. Always a welcome sight in an action film, even if his presence makes the title a misnomer (Chan's teaching the Chinese art of kung fu rather than the Japanese art of karate)

If Jaden Smith has half the business and acting chops of his old man he'll be a force to be reckoned with box-office-wise in a few years.

Yes! Perfectly stated!

I've been excited to see this ever since you sent me the trailer, and now it clearly needs to get bumped to the top of the to-see list. Thanks for the rec!
