Tonight was the third time I managed to catch onto a burning electrical system before the alarms did.

Five firetrucks. Five! And a chief!

I really hope the rest of your week is quiet and sedate and a little boring. This is sufficient excitement for awhile.

Must be something going on this week -- I heard a pop and smelled melted plastic and smoke on Saturday when I replaced two light switches in my bathroom.

I only got ONE fire engine, though the three guys were very nice looking (I think it's in the regs). They made sure I didn't have any sparks smoldering in the insulation waiting for me to go to sleep, and suggested getting a circuit tester before attempting to re-attach the switches. (So I'll be showering by candlelight for a few days.)

Goodness gracious! Good for you...not too much damage from the fire, I hope?

No, at work, and if it happened on a regular night we wouldn't have known anything about it till we came back in the morning.

Just a dead AC unit. Those things are beasts!

This is the second time one of our ancient AC units has died with smoke etc. We keep saying they need replacing with something that frickin' works...

Go you!

We had fire training at work today and I extinguished all the fires that I had to attempt getting out.

You must have gotten good 'smell' genes. Lucky for the library!

I'm always the last to smell anything in the room -- not good when you're talking scorching electrical wire, but sometime a benefit in past jobs with a pungent work environment... (Hot cooking oil, anyone?)

Woah! Heroism walk with you!

I'm a "floor liaison officer" for fire and bomb (etc) alerts for my building at work, which means a plastic hat and lots of extinguisher-checking and getting disabled people out when ever able-bodied bugger runs for it and leaves us in the lurch (or hiding in the basement if we're being mortar-attacked), but I've never had more than two fire trucks even in a real fire. You did great!

I am lucky in that I work in a small building, because the Library never much practices fire drills, except for the big central building downtown.
