Oooh, a lovely long chapter with lots of action -- and Purdey getting her hands back on Gambit, among other things.

I agree with belegcuthalion, the amount of detail is part of what makes this so enjoyable, and so easy to translate into a mental picture. And I agree too that Florrie's reaction to missing tea is a great touch, both in showing her age tripping her up, and in Gambit's instinctive reaction. A soft spot for the damsels!

Enjoying Purdey's reactions too, the unconscious -- or at least unacknowledged -- proprietary attitude. Her Gambit is in there somewhere, and she's going to make good and darned sure he remembers HER pretty soon. But she's not admitting even in her head that this is going to be a tipping point between them, when he does get his memory back: the light flirtation has a deeper basis than either one of them has bargained on. One wonders how much Steed is amused by the revelations, or will be once the immedidate danger is over -- being Steed, he's perfectly aware of them, of course.

Good thing Florrie's mum is not the observant sort! Hard to miss that spectacular leap up the wall...
