At that point the judge threw up his hands and declared that if the defense in its wisdom thought that my best interests were served by foolish charades we could have our delay and welcome to it. This decision was met with loud jeers from the gallery, but with cheers from the reporters with their notebooks and my friends. I bowed to the inevitable. Sherlock Holmes had come to stay.
