Even in Massachusetts!

I went to vote (first time I've had to stand in line at my precinct ever but it's calmed down a little now that the early birds are done) and the COP in FULL UNIFORM who was sitting at the checkout desk (standing between me and my filled out ballot and the actual ballot box) was requiring IDs.

I said, "that's not a requirement in Massachusetts". He said, "Yes it is. Want me to show you?"

I showed him my ID, went home, got the info off the state elections website AND called the elections division downtown. Took the webpage printout back and showed it to him and the Warden.

You're only required to show ID in Massachusetts if you
a) registered by mail since 2003 and
b) are voting in your first federal election.

He was very sour about it. "I hope that made your day," he growled at me.

It did!
