I really enjoyed the MEFAs, I must say, because the "comment based" aspect of the voting drove me to read more widely than I had before, and because I got some really wonderful comments on the stories which had been nominated, whether they won anything else or not -- and you know that gave me warm fuzzies. Next year I plan to do some nominating of my own!
