...a 6-year-old boy walking down the road, holding a 5-month-old, surrounded by five toddlers who followed him around as if he were their leader.

Aside from the fact that that story made my eyes overflow, this sounds like the perfect beginning for a sweet hobbit children tale.

Mind you, I've met six year olds who could do that. I've met seven year olds who were put in charge of three younger siblings on a regular basis, but I was pretty mad about it at the time...

Good news! Yay! We need more of it. That and the story of the "storm babies" (premies who were evacuated without their moms) brought me to tears. Thank God for the web, I hate to think of how long it would otherwise have taken for them to find each other.
