When you have become utterly trapped by your research while writing a Sherlock Holmes story, don't forget that Conan Doyle wouldn't have bothered.

THINK OF THE MILK DRINKING SNAKE AND KEEP WRITING.

Don't forget that the milk drinking snake could hear as well.

PS, and it could climb ropes. I've heard that 'real' snakes can't climb ropes, they can climb solid surfaces.

Why do I keep thinking there's got to be a Stargate crossover there?

PS, or a Doctor Who crossover! Who came to collect the alien MDS later? (I guess if you like Torchwood you could cross it with that.)

Obviously it was an alien snake.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA. I actually did LOL at that. It may make a cross-over I've been sitting on (for forever it seems) easier to finish, so thanks for the advice!

It's a SPECIAL DAIRY SNAKE!

Good luck with the research: I hear your pain and share it!

Clearly, the snake was in charge of Roylott and not the other way around.

I either need a T shirt or a large plaque with several Watson's glaring at blank pages...

The worst part of the seductive nature of the internet is finding the perfect source -- and then having google books tell you that they won't show you all of it. Or having the page you really need be photographed incredibly badly...

Back from a few days away and going through my flist, and just wanted to scribble a line to say that this post made me laugh aloud to myself. I now desperately want that line on, like, some sort of poster or mouse mat or something I can keep on my writing desk for constant encouragement. Think of the milk-drinking snake.

If I could draw, I think I'd make one of those patterns you can put on t-shirts and coffee mugs and things. If you know anyone who has mad designer skills, tell them they are free to do so -- I just want the link so I can buy a mousemat too!
