The Brown Lands they are now, but I remember how green they were when first my armies marched this road. There was plenty to spare, and some of the farmers were quick to accept our protection in exchange for what we needed. But the disobedience of the others, and the resistance fostered by the Elves was like a leaking wound, and little by little we were forced to slay the villagers and burn the fields, until the battles were fought on salted earth.

This time, we will do things better. This time we’ll be careful not to burn the fields.

This has been a GREAT series!

This one we actually know a little more about from one of the Unfinished Tales. He was an Easterling, so I imagined him as coming in like a conquerer even before he got a Ring.

I love these little drabbles featuring all nine of the nazgul. I was going to wait until the last one to post a comment but what the heck - Eco wraith won out. I especially like the last line. Will be looking out for the last one. :)

Doubly enjoyed! You made these bad guys so real that I almost pity them. Great job overall!

I like this eco-wraith too. After the next one I have to go back and read all of these together, because I want to see if there is a correlation with each of the wraiths with each of the fellowship. The "look at me, I'm flying" one reminded me of Pippin, and this one makes me think of Sam. Or... I'm just completely wrong because its midnight and I'm exhausted. ;-)

I don't know if there's a correlation. I didn't intend one, but it might be interesting if one happened accidentally.
